Donal is an educator with over twenty years’ experience of teaching in post primary education in Ireland, his subjects are enterprise, business and computer science. In this role, he seeks to encourage students to actively participate in science and engineering fairs as well as student enterprise competitions. Donal is a graduate of Limerick University and Limerick Institute of Technology, he holds a Degree in Business and Master of Science in Education and Masters in Computers in Education, he recently completed a Post Graduate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development with Trinity College Dublin.

Having entered science fairs since 2005, his students have amassed over sixty awards including runner up, numerous category awards, Self Help Africa Award, Science Foundation Ireland Award, E.I. Electronics Awards, The Portwest Workplace Safety Award, Analog Devices Award, Berlin Long Night of Science Award, Yale Science and Engineering Association Award, Boston Scientific ‘Best Medical Devices Award’ and Patent Award. Donal has been a recipient of the Analog Devices Educator of Excellence Award on two occasions and has won the Intel Educator of Excellence in the Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences Award at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, which is Europe’s largest science competition. 

His students have won over fifty regional enterprise awards, ten national awards including five national titles going on to successfully represent Ireland in European and World enterprise finals as well as been frequently featured in national media. He was awarded the National Teacher for Entrepreneurship Award in 2017 as well as Ireland’s Most Inspirational Teacher Award in 2016 and was shortlisted for the ‘Teacher’s Inspire Award” in 2019. 

A strong advocate of integrating innovation into the curriculum and encouraging students to thing differently, Donal delivers courses in ICT and STEM for LCETB, Google and Limerick Education Centre and others. Donal is a regular guest speaker on Enterprise and STEM on local and national media.

Donal visits colleges and schools giving talks to students about the important of STEM and Innovation in Education.
